the atlas of extractive industries

The Atlas of Extractive Industries was built for the Transparency Lab, a research project based at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies.

The Transparency Lab project looked at the technologies and qualities of transparency in the global mining industry to understand how transparency is assessed, enacted and regimented across the lifespan of minerals and metals, as well as the discursive and regulatory practices enabling the production and trade of precious minerals and metals on a global scale.

As a part of this work, I translated these transparent regulatory mechanisms and other practices into a series of data visualisations:
